Adding a burst of festive energy to the holiday season, Ryan Gosling, known for his role in “Barbie,” delighted fans with an unexpected EP release this week. The EP includes a Christmas version of his popular song “I’m Just Ken” from the blockbuster movie. Collaborating once again with “Barbie” soundtrack producer Mark Ronson, the duo named the project “Ken the EP” and even treated fans to a music video accompanying the release.

The video showcases Ryan, Mark, and their production team recording the track in a festively decorated studio, with Ryan’s vocals harmonizing alongside a string section.

Alongside the Christmas rendition, the EP features an acoustic recording and a dance remix of “I’m Just Ken.” Mark Ronson took to Instagram to share his initial impression of Ryan’s interpretation of the “Barbie” song when they first met during the film’s preparation.

Mark praised Ryan, stating that he not only brought a diverse vocal range, including a broken falsetto and a robust growl, but also the emotional depth of a seasoned actor who had immersed himself in the role for the past six months. Mark admitted to being initially “star-struck” by Ryan.

Reflecting on the global success of “Barbie,” Mark expressed his joy at witnessing the world falling in love with Ryan’s portrayal of Ken. The two bonded over music, leading to a solid friendship that resulted in the speedy recording and release of “Ken the EP” in just one week.

The soundtrack of “Barbie,” titled “Barbie: The Soundtrack,” has gained acclaim as a companion to the movie. Songs like Billie Eilish’s “What Was I Made For?” and Dua Lipa’s “Dance The Night” have joined “I’m Just Ken” as nominees for Best Original Song at the 2024 Golden Globes.
